Jocelyn Hess Receives SPE ACCE Awards Novi, MI, September 3-5, 2023 ![]() Jocelyn Hess, a senior in the Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) department received two awards at the Society of Plastic Engineering (SPE) Automotive Composites Conference & Exhibition (ACCE) in Novi, Michigan (a suburb of Detroit) in September, 2025. Jocelyn received the "SPE ACCE 2025 Graduate Award", which included $1000 scholarship as well as registration and accommodations at the conference. ![]() While at the conference, Jocelyn presented her research, which she has been conducting under the advising of Prof. David Harper in the Center for Renewable Carbon (CRC) at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture with the occasional assist from Prof. David Keffer in the Materials Science & Engineering department. Jocelyn was also mentored by recent graduate of the UTK MSE department, Dr. Cece Grubb. She presented both a poster and oral presentation, titled "Exploring Effects of Additives on the Thermal Stability and Processability of Paper Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene for Automotive Applications". She won first place in the SPE ACCE 2025 Undergraduate Student Poster Competition. These latest recognitions add to an impressive list of Jocelyn's accomplishments, which include being named a Goldwater Scholar earlier in the year. More photos on the Keffer research group site. |
