MSE Students Tour MDF at ORNL
Knoxville, TN, October 11, 2024

The local Student Chapter of Material Advantage at the University of Tennessee arranged to have a group of undergraduate students in the MSE department tour the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Dr. Dustin Gilmer, assistant professor in the MSE department served as the tour guide and gave a presentation on what type of work happens at the MDF.

The students were able to see examples of advanced additive and subtractive manufacturing with polymer systems, metal systems, and composites.

The student response to the tour was overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to Material Advantage for organizing the visit, Dr. Gilmer for hosting, MDF for welcoming us and Marlena Alexander for sharing the photos and write-up.
