Summer Internship Spotlight: Maddie Maben @ Kyocera AVX
Greenville, South Carolina, Summer, 2024

MSE senior, Maddie Maben (second to right), completed an internship with the Development Engineering team at Kyocera AVX. KAVX is a global manufacturer of electronic components that Maddie first learned about at the fall 2023 Engineering Expo at UT. At their U.S. headquarters in Greenville, South Carolina, Maddie worked on projects related to the processing of ceramic capacitors that were in the product development stage. Specifically, she worked with a materials engineer in the dicing area of the facility, where ceramic squares are cut into individual chips.

Maddie was part of an internship cohort (shown above) at Kyocera AVX. Being part of an intern cohort was a highlight of the summer. Maddie says, "I made some great friendships!" Of the internship as a whole, she says, "I couldn't have hoped for a better experience."

Maddie developed a standard operating procedure for a dicing machine, used to cut ceramic material, and designed experiments related to improving the processing of the green components.
